Bridge the digital skill gap with becomedigital.be

 

Many Belgians urgently need to sharpen their skills to keep up with the rapid digitalisation of our society and economy. In order to strengthen this awareness and to make available training offerings better known, becomedigital.be was launched. An initiative of Microsoft and Proximus in collaboration with Agoria, PwC and UQalify.

"The transition to a more digital economy will create around 200,000 new jobs by 2030," explains Erik Kerkhofs of Microsoft. "At the same time, we see that approximately 4.5 million Belgians will need to learn new skills in the coming years. However, it appears that only 8% of Belgians have recently taken courses in this field, and that is below the European average of 15%.”

If we don't do something about this, we risk an ever-widening gap between digital competences and the job market by 2030. The platform becomedigital.be offers an answer to this. It allows users, both individuals and companies, to map their digital competences. 

"The intention is to allow as many individuals and organisations as possible to map their current digital skills. So the emphasis is really on self-evaluation," says Kerkhofs. "In function of future job opportunities and a matching training offer, you can then take the necessary steps to sharpen your talents, depending on your profile."
